In social studies, we are learning about living in a community. Who lives in a community? What happens in a community? What buildings are in a community? Yesterday, we focused on the buildings in a community. Our class made a list on the smart board of buildings that a community needs. After making the list, I gave each student a piece of paper with four buildings outlined. The students chose buildings that were important to them and illustrated them on their paper. Here are some great examples of student work:

RAA Door Contest
To celebrate Read Across America week, Glenwood is having a door contest. Read Across America Day is March 2nd. I wanted to decorate our door early, so we can celebrate the whole month of February! Our class chose Horton Hears a Who! for our door inspiration. Each student's face is on a clover that they decorated with glitter. Horton is holding a special clover with a tiny picture of our class.
Don't forget: "A person is a person, no matter how small." We are all important!

Cave Drawings
Last week, we read The Fire Keeper in our BJU readers. In the story, Little Fox draws on the walls of a cave. The Native American character inspired us to make some cave drawings of our own! Each student drew pictures of his/her family and gave them Native American names. I'm not sure if you will be able to see the names, but the pictures turned out amazing!

What Makes Your Tail Wag?
Valentine's Day is fast approaching! I love Valentine's Day because I get to read one of my favorite books:
My best friend Sarah gave me this book for my 23rd birthday, and I can't wait to share it with my class each year.
After reading Wag!, each child thought of one thing that makes his/her tail wag and wrote it on a Valentine's heart.

Glenwood's Channel One News Weather Report
Last week, our class studied weather. We broke up into groups and made weather forecast videos. They were too cute not to share! I got the idea from http://shenanigansinsecond.blogspot.com/search/label/FREEBIES. This is a FANTASTIC blog that all teachers should check out. Anyway, here is one of my favorite videos of the day:
Conservation Posters
Hello! This is my very first blog post, and I am so excited to share fun activities that my class does this year. This week we have been studying conservation and recycling. I put my class of 21 in groups of 3 and 4 students. Each group worked together and made a conservation poster. Here are the posters:
I LOVE that my class is so creative!
